2 Stitch one plain piece to each long edge of the patterned panel taking 2.5cm seams. Trim and press open seam allowances.
3 Turn under 2.5cm along each top edge and stitch zip in place to form a ring (see below). Open zip and turn through. Stitch each side taking a 2.5cm seam and turn through zip. Tie a tassel to the zip fob and fill with goodies.
Round bag
You will need:
Main fabric
Lining fabric
Contrast fabric
Matching thread
Piping cord
Twine and beads
1 Cut a rectangle of main fabric 28cm by 44cm and a piece of lining fabric to the same size. Cut a 12.5cm-diameter circle in main fabric and a piece of lining fabric to the same size. Cut a 7cm by 44cm strip of contrast fabric for the band around the middle. Cut a 30cm by 5cm strip of contrast fabric for the tie and enough 7cm-wide bias strips of the same fabric to fit around the circle when joined plus 2cm excess.
2 Right sides facing and short edges matching, fold the main fabric and stitch taking a 2.5cm seam. Press open seam allowance, turn through.
3 On the contrast band of fabric press under the two long edges by 1cm and tack in place centrally around the main fabric tube, folding the raw edges under on each side of the seam allowance. Slip stitch around all four edges and remove tacking. Turn through to reverse side.
4 Folding piping strip in half lengthways, insert a length of piping cord into the fold and tack in place. Right sides facing and matching raw edges, tack in place around one end of the main fabric tube. Again right sides facing and matching raw edges, tack fabric circle in place on top of piping cord (see above). Stitch through all layers taking a 2.5cm seam. Trim and press open seam allowance and turn through. Press under 2.5cm along the top edge.
5 Stitch the lining main piece and lining circle in the same way, but don't turn through. Press 2.5cm to the wrong side along the top edge.
6 Wrong sides facing, insert the lining into the main bag. Slip stitch top, folded edges together.
7 Take the tie strip and fold the two long edges to the centre and press. Fold again along the length and stitch close to the edge. Fold in the raw edges at each end, slip stitch closed and press.
8 Using the photograph as a guide, stitch a bead and twine decoration along the contrasting strip. Fill with gifts and wrap tie around the top.
